Borehole Accessories – 7 Things You Need To Know About Installing A Borehole

Do you wish to dig a borehole but are unsure of the conditions, price, or a qualified borehole driller? Don’t worry; we’ll cover the basics of boreholes and some of the most popular accessories in this blog post.

Accessories for boreholes are crucial parts used in drilling and maintaining them. They are made to simplify and speed up the drilling and installation processes.

CASING PIPES:

The borehole is lined by casing pipes, which also support the sides of the hole. They aid in keeping the water or other fluids confined and prevent the borehole from collapsing.

Depending on the borehole’s depth, diameter, water quality, and possible water yield, casing pipes often come in a variety of sizes and lengths constructed of steel or PVC. Being affordable and non-corrosive, plastic is widely used.

Casing Pipes

Also required is that the bore casing extend at least 300mm above the top of the concrete slab. If the bore is located in a flood-prone area, the casing should be longer than the expected flood height.

SCREENS:

Sand and other debris are prevented from entering the borehole by placing screens over the casing pipes. Moreover, they let water pass through while removing undesirable particles. PVC, stainless steel, and polyester are just a few of the materials used to make screens.

GRAVEL PACKS:

Fine sand and silt that could enter the borehole during drilling are filtered out by gravel packs. They are made up of layers of gravel of various sizes that are positioned between the borehole wall and the screen.

PUMPS:

Pumps are used to extract water or other fluids from the borehole. There are different types of pumps, including submersible pumps, jet pumps, and solar pumps. The type of pump used depends on the depth of the borehole, the amount of water needed, and the energy source available.Solar submersible pumpA submersible pump

CONTROL PANELS:

Control panels are used to regulate the operation of the pumps. They include switches, gauges, and electrical components that monitor the flow of water, the pump’s power consumption, and other parameters.

VALVES:

Valves are used to control the flow of water from the borehole. They are installed at different points in the borehole and are designed to prevent water backflow, regulate pressure, and control the amount of water pumped.

FITTINGS:

Fittings are used to connect different components of the borehole system. They include pipes, elbows, couplings, and connectors. Fittings come in different materials, including steel, PVC, and brass.

Where to put borehole

Inquire with surrounding bore owners and a certified driller about the presence of groundwater (Techno Santo is a licensed driller company we got you covered on that). You can anticipate a similar outcome from nearby bores if their geological and topographical environments are similar to your own.

SEPARATION DISTANCE

A traditional septic tank effluent trench and a bore must be separated by 100 meters. If not, one of the following options must be used:

  • For aerated wastewater treatment systems that produce unchlorinated effluent, a separation distance of 50 meters is required.
  • For aerated wastewater treatment systems that use continuous chlorination, a minimum separation distance of 30 meters is required.
  • Any of the following sources of pollution must be at least 100 meters away: areas where fertilizers or chemicals are stored, fruit packing sheds, plant workshops, and animal enclosures.

Location

  • When choosing a location for your borehole, consider the proximity to a power source as it can reduce costs.
  • Avoid placing the borehole within a firebreak area.
  • Before drilling, identify the location of any underground services on your property to prevent damage.
  • If your property is at risk of flooding, place the borehole on higher ground to ensure year-round accessibility.

In conclusion, borehole accessories play a crucial role in the drilling and maintenance of boreholes. They simplify and enhance the drilling and installation processes, ensuring their reliability and efficiency.
